Yr Wyddfa
Dave (60) and Sara (25) meet early in the morning at the foot of the Yr Wyddfa climb. They greet each other coolly and begin the hike together. Dave tries to strike up a conversation with his daughter, but it’s clear Sara isn’t interested.
A little later, the two pause next to a mountain lake. Dave explains that Sara’s mother always looked out at the mountain as a child and explains how the mountain got its name, Yr Wyddfa. Sara isn’t interested in the small talk. She blames her father for never being interested in her life. During the argument, it becomes clear that Sara’s relationship with a woman has just ended and that she blames her father for never accepting her sexual orientation. She walks away angrily.
Dave catches up with his daughter on the climb. He clumsily tries to make it clear that he never judged his daughter’s sexuality, but that it was a shock he had to process, and that he was afraid it would make Sara’s life more difficult. The more Dave reveals his feelings and fears, the more Sara thaws.
Finally, father and daughter reach the top of the mountain. There, Dave retrieves an urn from his backpack. They scatter Sara’s mother’s ashes. Dave explains that her last wish was for Sara to forgive her father. Sara reaches out to her father. Together, they watch the sunset.
